By the above term we mean the presence of lower shore organism at higher levels than normal etc. Such modifications in the distribution pattern are due to a number of factors. Differences in aspect can lead to important modifications in distribution. Thus the shaded sides of boulders can harbour organisms from much lower down the shore than will the sunny side (photo).
However, the main factor affecting uplift is Wave Action.
